Leg 2, Day 5: Charles Caudrelier Blog

"Finding the sausage was the best moment of the day!"

After a very fast start we are now in light air. We are still in in-shore mode on board Dongfeng, fighting against a group of four boats for first place.

This morning I thought I could go for a good sleep and relax, knowing we had a good lead and all the boats were in line behind us. But a few hours later the next ranking arrived and the boats were all to our west and we had to gybe again to get more wind and control them.

I am afraid this is going to be the game of this edition, racing around the world in inshore mode so I am sorry my story is still the same and may be a bit boring as we are so focused on speed and the weather forecast. The stress of this race has killed my inspiration for a good joke but today I have a nice story…whilst we were drying the boat we had a good surprise. Jack found three pieces of sausage hidden in the back of the boat which was the best news of the day with the ranking.

We have been sailing for five days and I am already fed up with the freeze-dried food so eating this sausage was the best moment of the day! I am not sure if it’s a good joke from our chief cook Marine or a test from our shore crew to be sure we are carrying out some good checks of the boat because it was really very well hidden.

Have a nice day
